RIP King of the Bush

Today I had the very unhappy accident of hitting a Kookaburra while driving on the expressway to Sydney, near Penrith. At 110km per hour there is no hope for the poor thing. He was flying very low and as soon as I saw him it was too late. Or her. While I was waiting for the tow truck, all I could think of was how beautiful these special birds are. Of all the birds to hit - not that hitting any animal in a bloody car is good. I've made a donation to Wires but still - poor kookaburra.

Oh Jacqui you poor thing, are you ok? The "waiting for the tow truck" part has me concerned! How awful you must feel but there was nothing else you could have done in that situation. It was his/her time and at least it was quick and not intentional.
Hope you are recovering with a cup of tea and something yummy x

Thanks Lisa, it was an accident but I still feel bad about it. The windscreen cracked all over the place right through so I couldn' t keep driving. And of course being a long weekend, no one can fix it 'til Tuesday so we are stuck at home with the rain! Oh well, it's good to rest up at least and yes, I'm going to make a cake soon so that will cheer me up no end. I hope you had a good long weekend x

Awwww Jacqui I agree with Lisa, don't feel guilty it isn't your fault! I understand that you'd feel that way, I would too. Donating was a lovely thing to do. Hope you're ok x

That is so sad. We have a lot of Ravens out here in the Arizona desert and they like to swoop in front of the car or just stand in the road, daring you to come closer. Most people out here think they're a nuisance but I think they are magical.

Hi Jacqui..I know how you feel, I drove into a peewee a few years ago and it was upsetting. Nobody likes birds to die like that, but sometimes it just can't be helped. Accidents happen. I hope your week improves.
