The young'uns arrived this morning and a pair of little sweeties they are too! I forgot how small they are at this age so need to get some grower mash as the pellets are a bit big for them. They are great little foragers after living free range out on a large property at Mudgee. The girls are curious but not at all aggressive toward them which is a good sign but for now I have them separated just so they can settle in without too much stress.
So! Without further ado, here they are:
I'm tentatively calling the one at the back Blossom. M. thinks it's a bit twee but I think it suits her!
Being watched over by Boss Chook
I have a feeling the one of the left might be a little boy...guess we'll have to just wait and see!

Blossom!
Definitely a Scarface.
What about Rock Chic then?
Or Chicky Babe?
Nice Light Sussex :-)
Mmmm? I think you may be right about one being a boy :-/
Celia
You're crazy Queenie!
I know Celia...oh well, maybe we can keep him and he'll just crow during the day :)
awwwwwww how cute are they!!
Welcome kids to a fabulous new life
I like Blossom - how about Blossom and Possum - even more twee M I know
I didn't want to say it either, but I think you're right about the boy too. If you can keep him, I think that would be great.
He'll help his girlfriend settle in with the older hens when it's time to introduce them.
I've always done that when introducing new hens to established flocks - bring in the boy they were raised with. He cops the heat but stands his ground. Any fights are generally intense but short. The older hens learn quickly there's a new head honcho on the block, and he ensures the girl he was raised with gets access to food and water.
I know everyone can't have roosters, but when it is possible, they really do add to flock stability. I've tried giving up roosters when we had the opportunity to, but I always bring them back into the mix. They're just the ying to the yang. :)
Oooh lovely! I'm with the Captain -Blossom and Possum. And if possum turns out to be a he.. well, not so bad a name. Did they sell them to you as hens? Bit suspect methinks.
We can keep roosters according to our council here, as long as the neighbours don't complain. My view-if they are truly noisy enough for the neighbours to complain, then they are too noisy for me too!
When we had our last one though (Racey RIP) he didn't crow til he was let out around 8ish, few crows during the morning and he was done. Hoping he wasn't a one-off...
id love to know where you got them from i have been after light sussex for quite a while. they are cute & if one is a boy you could always have him for dinner if he turns out to be too loud or mean like our last rooster was.
